How to Clean a Bottom Loading Water Cooler?

If you have a bottom-loading water cooler, it is recommended to clean it at least once a year. This will ensure that you have fresh, cool and refreshing water on demand. It is important to read the manufacturer’s instructions before cleaning a water dispenser, as the process can vary depending on your model.

A dirty water cooler can be a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. You should clean your water cooler as soon as you change a bottle to avoid any contaminated water. Also, if you have a leak in your unit, you should not use it. Contact the manufacturer if you need to replace a component.

Before you begin cleaning, unplug the water cooler from electrical sources. Use a clean microfiber cloth and multi-purpose spray to wipe down the inside and outside of the cooler. Wipe the spigots and dispensing lever thoroughly.

Once you have finished wiping down the exterior and interior of the water cooler, you will need to sanitize the system. Most manufacturers recommend that you sanitize your water dispenser at least two to three times a year. When sanitizing a water cooler, make sure that you use a bleach solution. However, it is best to avoid using bleach on stainless steel. Bleach can damage the stainless steel and cause corrosion.

Clean the plastic parts of the water cooler with hot soapy water. Then, rinse the parts with clean water. After sanitizing the parts, you should soak them in a dishwasher. Make sure to rinse the parts well and place them back on the cooler.

After soaking the removable parts, you should flush the sanitizing solution through the water cooler system. Rinse the water cooler completely. To prevent scratches, make sure to use non-abrasive cleaning materials such as a microfiber cloth or disposable duster.

When the sanitizing solution has been removed, you should rinse the water cooler down with a basin full of plain water. This will help to remove any residue of the sanitizing solution.

To help sanitize the water dispenser, you can use vinegar. However, the best method is to combine liquid chlorine bleach and water. These methods will be much more effective than using a vinegar and water mix.

Make a solution of a 1:3 ratio of distilled white vinegar and warm water. Add one teaspoon of unscented bleach to the solution. Let it sit for about two minutes. Using a lint-free towel, apply the solution to the outer and inner surfaces of the water cooler. Leaving the sanitizing solution on the water cooler for at least five minutes will help to disinfect it.

Depending on the model of your water cooler, you should sanitize the entire unit. This will ensure that you have a clean, germ-free unit. If you are unable to sanitize the whole water cooler, you can always clean the interior of the reservoir. Alternatively, you can simply wipe down the dispenser with a soft cloth and then rinse it off with plain water.
