How to Change Filter on Water Filtration System?

If your water filtration system is leaking, you may be wondering how to change the filter. When a filter is leaking, it can lead to sediment and rusting, so it is recommended that you replace it with a new one. It is also a lot cheaper to replace a filter than to keep maintaining it. However, you should be careful when changing the filter so that you do not damage other components of your plumbing system.

Before you begin, make sure you have the appropriate tools to help you with the job. Some people use a filter wrench to change the filter. While a wrench can be useful, it can break if you apply too much pressure. For this reason, a strap wrench is a better option. You can also buy a small plastic pipe to put over the wrench’s end, which can provide you with extra leverage.

The first step in replacing your filter is to turn off the water. This can be done at the main water line valve in your house. In fact, some people use a plastic pipe over the wrench’s end, which creates a longer bar for better leverage. Another trick is to tap the wrench with a rubber mallet.

Once the water is off, you can start replacing the filter. To ensure the process is easy, start by cleaning the filter canister. A rag should be used to wipe the filter housing. After the filter canister is clean, rinse it with warm soapy water.

Next, you should lubricate the O-rings with silicone grease. This will ensure that the o-rings stay sealed and prevent leaks. Be sure to check the o-rings for any nicks or abrasions.

Before you put the new filter in, you should thoroughly rinse it. Depending on the manufacturer, you will have a manual that will have instructions on how to do this. Also, soaking the media in vinegar will remove hard water buildup.

Then, you will need to replace the O-ring. You can get a replacement O-ring from the same place as your current filter. Make sure that you do not stretch the ring, as this will make it hard to fit.

Then, you will need to put the O-ring in the groove of the new filter. Afterwards, you can close the outlet valve. This will prevent the leaking water from draining back into your home.

Once you have replaced the filter, you should clean the filter canister and the housing. Use a cloth and paper towel to remove any debris and sediment that has accumulated. Finally, you can wash the filter housing in warm, soapy water.
